A.  You have access to the best Mechanics on the Northern Beaches with straight forward opinions and diagnosis. We can work at a competitive rate with no franchise obligations.

Q What is the cost difference between standard ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles- Petrol / Diesel and EV (Electric Vehicle) and HYBRID Servicing?

A.   All vehicles need to be serviced every 12 months or 10,000km whichever occurs first. The cost of servicing is very similar, starting from $250 to $600. Generally speaking the more basic your vehicle is the cheaper your servicing will be.

Q. What is Preventative Maintenance?

A.  A well serviced vehicle is always more safe and reliable than a car that has missed a couple of services. You need a good mechanic like Max Harder Motors with good product knowledge to see future faults before they occur. Over servicing is wasteful.

Q. How long will my car last?

A.  Every 100,000km is like a big birthday for a car, accompanied by a big service. Some people prefer to sell their car to avoid the cost but others see it as a good investment to keep their car for another 100,000km. Well maintained vehicles will do 300,000km.

Q. Why won't my car start?

A.  This can be a stressful situation, systematically check the following, are the red ignition lights on dash coming on, check fuel gauge (are you simply out of fuel), is vehicle in park or clutch or brake pedal depressed, can u hear the engine turning over (if there is a machine gun like noise your battery is faulty). Try a second key. If all of the following check out OK you will need a tow truck. NRMA roadside assistance will provide a free tow to Max Harder Motors for further diagnosis.

Q. What do I do if my car makes a Squeak / Rattle / Knock noise?

A.  DO NOT turn up your radio! When your car was new there were no such sounds coming from it so something is worn out. This can be extremely dangerous and should be taken seriously. You must make a judgement call whether to TOW it for inspection at Max Harder Motors or risk your safety to drive to the workshop. Please call for advice.

Q. What is that burning smell?

A.  Something is leaking! Worse case scenario is a flammable liquid dripping on a hot exhaust system resulting in a fire! Please take the burning smell as a reason to book in immediately to Max Harder Motors for an Inspection.

Q. What should I check for when buying a car?

A.  Carry out a REVS or PPSR check before purchasing any car PRIVATELY as it is a BUYER beware situation. The vehicle may be encumbered/ have money owing on it, on a WOVR (Written Off Vehicle Register) not able to be re-registered or STOLEN. It is a must to get a Mechanical and Safety Inspection before buying the car. Max Harder Motors will help you, you can say Purchase Pending Inspection to the seller. Usually we will find some faults that can help with your price negotiation.
